Over the next 15 years, he created and filled several positions of increasing responsibility in training, organisation development and human resources. John has worked with CSI since 1995, developing and delivering programmes to clients in the US, Canada, and the Far East. In addition to focusing on leadership in organisations, he has helped to develop the professional skills of internal and external providers of professional services, particularly consultants.
John began his career in 1966 as a teacher of secondary-level English. While completing his Masters’ degree in adult learning at the University of Southern California in the early 1970s, he began training recent university graduates to teach in poor and neglected American communities. He focused on developing innovative materials and programmes to prepare new teachers to work with Hispanic, African American, and American Indian students. During this period he completed his Ph.D in communications at the Union Institute.
From 1976 to 1980, he was jointly appointed with the University of Nebraska and Fordham University, where he led large multi-disciplinary teams to train the trainers of teachers at the national level. He published and edited numerous articles, monographs, and books during his academic career, as well as producing, directing, and appearing in documentary and training videotapes. During 1980-81, he was a Senior Policy Fellow at the National Institute of Education.
At Booz Allen, John started and built an internal Training Centre to develop and deliver programmes in consulting skills, communications, leadership, management and business development. These programmes were supplemented by distance learning, self-study, mentoring, team building, culture change, and organisational improvement services. This work was noted within the organisation and industry for its quality, contributions to client delivery, and high impact.
In 1991, he merged the Training and Human Resources Departments. As Human Resources Director, he led a team of 70 HR professionals providing services across the employment life-cycle for all levels in a rapidly growing organisation exceeding 4,000 people. His individual contributions were in human resources strategy and partner support, as well as firm-wide leadership development programs.
