VP – INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN

Tony Cuevas has over 20 years of experience in instructional design for corporate and academic clients, including work as a teacher, training specialist, training manager, curriculum designer and consultant. He developed an interest in instructional design as a teacher and pursued this interest while earning a Ph.D. in Instructional Systems from Florida State University.

He began his career in instructional design as a technical development specialist with Electronic Data Systems (EDS, now part of HP), and continued to develop professionally as a Senior Consultant in Talent Development and Change Management. He transferred to A.T. Kearney in 1995 to lead curriculum design for the consulting curriculum and established performance-based curriculum suites for the full range of consulting roles.

Tony’s research interests are in the area of game-based and simulation-based learning. He designs interactive learning technologies and leads creative teams in the development of simulations, games and apps for education. In 2003, Tony led a group of video game development industry pioneers in the creation of a Master of Interactive Technology degree with a focus on digital game development at Southern Methodist University (SMU). Tony directed all aspects of Instructional Design and served as the Academic Director for this degree program. Dr. Cuevas teaches courses in instructional design, educational technology and game-based learning at the graduate and undergraduate level. He continues to work with SMU as an advisor in instructional design and learning technology for interdisciplinary programs.

His passion is in technology integration and designing innovative instruction that supports the development of  competencies interests of 21st century learners. Tony recently adopted two boys with special needs and is continuing his journey with them as a life-long learner.
